Biography of our founder
Brion
Wise grew up in Yakima, Washington on his family's fruit farm.
It was there that he was first exposed to wine by his father,
who was a home winemaker. He attended Washington State University
majoring in Chemical Engineering, and upon graduation, went
to work in the oil and gas industry. In the early 1970's Brion
founded the highly successful Western Gas Resources, Inc,
and remains actively involved with the company as a member
of the Board of Directors. Since his early days in southern
Washington, Brion has had a deep and enduring interest in
wine. In 2002, pursuing his dream to grow grapes and make
wine, Brion purchased a 100 acre uncultivated parcel of land
just outside of the historic town of Sonoma, California. In
the 1880's, the property was the source of the quarry stone
used to pave the streets of San Francisco.
Brion
has spent the last three years developing the Sonoma estate,
planting and cultivating the vineyards and creating a cave
for wine production and storage. From the beginning, Brion's
vision has been to develop the property in congruence with
the natural state of the land. In pursuit of that goal, he
has integrated the 13 vineyard sites with the genuine beauty
of the native landscape.
Brion
currently oversees the estate in Sonoma and plans to build
both a home and a working winery on the vineyard property
overlooking the Sonoma Valley. Brions return to his pastoral
roots and the development of the B.Wise Vineyards Estate reflects
his commitment to the sustainable cultivation and preservation
of the land as well as his dedication to producing wine of
the finest quality.
