Tasting Notes

Pure aromas of concentrated strawberry, cherry and blackplum are accented beautifully with delicate white pepper and other spices. Wonderfully silky and long in the mouth. Zinfandel doesn't get any better than this! Only 47 cases produced.

General Info

Old Vine Zin from the famed Luis Martini vineyard, originally planted in 1880 and procured by Martini in 1936. The vineyard has 100+ year old vines and produces extremely low-yield Zin with tremendous concentration and incredible aroma. The 1000ft. altitude of the vineyard sits well above the fog line, allowing the grapes to ripen more fully than the cooler lower valley. This is a very special offering and very limited obviously, the kind of wine real wine lovers seek-out. E&J Gallo bought this vineyard and winery in 2002 and stopped supplying the few produces who were buying fruit. Thus we were lucky to get some of the fruit, luckily we are friends with the head-winemaker at Gallo of Sonoma Marcello Monticelli. In fact his son Massimo is our winemaker! The B Wise Estate borders the Monte Rosso Vineyard and has some of the namesake red soils on the property.
